C'est qui le Patron ?!

In 2016, in the middle of the milk crisis, an idea was born: to create a brand co-constructed by consumers in support of producers.
The aim was for consumers to take back control of the way we consume and to put a smile back on the faces of the producers at the other end of the chain, by paying them a fair price. To date, 17 solidarity products have been created collectively, supporting more than 3,000 producer families across France.
A big thank you to all those who are supporting this great initiative and helping to make a positive difference!

8 years ago: consumers saved producers
‘They saved our lives’: many producers tell us how much consumer support has changed everything for them. It all started in Bresse, in this fragile area prone to flooding, where the slightest bad weather can cause huge financial, human and animal problems. Martial, former President of the Bresse Val de Saône Cooperative, talks about the ‘human scare’ and fear of suicide in May 2016 when he started handing out small A4 ‘SOS’ sheets in the shops around his home.

The ‘C'est qui le Patron?!’ approach is based on 3 fundamental pillars:

Support for producers:
As consumers, we create products that enable producers to make a decent living from their work, thanks to fair remuneration.
This is adjusted according to their needs and variations in their production costs. In this way, producers can look to the future with peace of mind, enjoying their free time or investing in their farm, for example. These investments can help them to pass on their farms, take more time off during the year, improve animal welfare, etc.
Co-construction and collective decision-making:
All the decisions that shape the life of the ‘C'est qui le Patron?!’ consumer cooperative are taken collectively!
All of us as consumers can vote on the specifications for the ‘C'est qui le Patron?!’ new products we want to see on the shelves. Type of farming, producer remuneration, packaging... All these criteria are decided collectively, via an online questionnaire.
To get even more involved and play a full part in developing the approach, anyone can become a member of the cooperative for a symbolic 1 euro.

Ongoing verification and transparency:
All ‘C'est qui le Patron?!’ solidarity products are created, voted on and checked collectively by us consumers, through visits to producers' farms, for example. Full traceability of production and composition guarantees constant and sustainable food safety, one of the cooperative's key points.
The construction of each point in the specifications for the products voted on is just as important as their verification.
‘C'est qui le Patron?!’ solidarity products are sold in supermarkets and they are arriving in more and more shops, thanks to the strength of the collective and the demands of every consumer on the shelves!
The very principle of our approach as consumers is our solidarity actions on the shelves. In a spirit of goodwill, we get in touch with our shop's floor manager to present our approach in support of producers and introduce the co-constructed products. The fact that it has been so successful over the last 8 years is down to collective intelligence and our determination as consumers.
Today, there are more than 15 million consumers of products in support of producers, and 556 million solidarity products sold since 2016!
